Renowned Psychologist Carl Jung asked his patients to use colour to express deeper sides of their psyche. Colour has such a huge role to play in how we feel and who we are. I’m a lover of green and white, but especially green, which colour are you?

Are you Pink ? Gentle, warm, feminine, romantic, sophisticated, delicate, well bred and charming.

People who like pink, are generally soft and quiet people. They love deeply and enjoy physical tranquility. A lover of pink will take care of those around them in a sensitive way. They are sweet and often very intuitive.

Pink has been seen a lot this year in bathrooms. Pale pink sinks and beautiful terrazzo floors and bench tops have added a romantic serene touch to our homes.

Are you Blue ? Trustworthy, wise, confident, intelligent, patient, quiet and sometimes conservative.

People who are drawn to blue are often sensitive to others needs. They are reliable friends and can be loving and generous. They tend to like cleanliness, the cold, order and funnily enough technology? Blue is a very safe colour due to its association with the sea and is a great colour to use in coastal properties. It is calming and steadfast.

Try adding some cushions with a blue ticking stripe to create a more country rustic feel or if you are going for a more Hamptons look, you can’t go past navy and white!

Are you Yellow ? Bright, warm, original, imaginative, creative, artistic, spiritual and loving.

Yellow people are generally happy, sunny, joyful people who are perfectionists by nature but are rather shy at heart. They love light and summer and are not very practical or down to earth, but rather have big imaginations and dreams.

Dull or dirty yellow has an association with illness or weakness, but bright sunflower yellow shouts optimism and hope.

My front door is bright lemon yellow so I get my sunshine fix each day. If you want to add some yellow to your house, grab a bunch of daffodils or yellow buttons, throw them in a glass jar and share the sunshine.

Are you White? Pure, simple, fresh, innocent, humble and a lover of cleanliness and precision.

White can often represent a very clinical, sterile setting, but to white lovers, who mix it well with highly textural furnishings like turned timber and sheep skin rugs, it can provide a neat, peaceful and spiritual haven.

People who prefer white tend to be cautious and often fussy and critical. They are self sufficient and organised.

Try contrasting white against a deeper darker piece of furniture. Put white timber chairs around a dark chocolate dinning table, or place a rich green leafy Monstera on a white timbered floor for dramatic emphasis.

Are you Black? Artistic, elegant, powerful, formal, wealthy, sexy and mysterious.

Black, grey and charcoal lovers can be intimidating, however are really quite down to earth people.

Black tends to have a lot of negative connotations, with its heavy metal associations and connections with horror and fear. However, black in fashion and in interior styling is seen as deep and dignified.

Artisans often like black, and we have seen a large influx in black marble, quartz bench tops and cinder coloured laminate in kitchen designs.

White and black will always create dramatic visual impact. Try adding some gold in the form of a candle or brass ornament to your black and white theme and see the sophistication pop. Think Chanel, Harpers Bazaar and Lambourgini!

Are you Orange? Vibrant, warm, energetic, flamboyant, extroverted, creative, determined and demanding of attention.

Orange is a beautiful colour, but often not very popular with its mix of red - ‘action’ and of yellow- ‘happiness’. We see a lot of it in retro interiors and 1960/70’s fashion.

Orange lovers, tend to have big personalities, a love of adventure and they play and work hard. They are always looking for the next fun thing to do and the next challenge to conquer.

Light peachy oranges have been seen in interiors this year, mixed with pinks and creams to create that ‘Strawberry Sundae’ youthful feel. If you feel like you need a little perking up, add an Ikat patterned rug with some burnt orange, and peach, the mix and match look is perfect if you are going for an eclectic style.

Are you Purple or Violet? Independent, intuitive, creative, spiritual, wise, noble, observant, super sensitive and moody.

Purple is a mixture of blue and red and therefore can often be a mix of personality traits. It has always been associated with royalty, wealth and richness, but is often now thought of as more of a spiritual colour. Purple is also seen as a colour linked with fantasy and meditation.

Those who prefer lighter purples, like lavender, violet and lilac are seen as more romantic, whimsical and light hearted.

Purple people are friendly but can be quite secretive and often like to be seen as separate from the rest of the crowd.

Bring some moody purple into your room with some lavender or lilac florist daisy’s otherwise known as chrysanthemums. Put these on your bedside table, I love waking up to mine.

Are you Green ?

Balanced, harmonious, healthy, sympathetic, faithful, wealthy, hopeful, abundant and generous.

Green is often seen as a colour that depicts fertility, growth and nature. It is linked to our heart and nervous system.

There are many shades of green and each depicts a different emotion. Greens range from rich emerald green, all the way to the yellow fluoro greens (my least favourite colour ever) popular mostly with youth.

People who like green are usually balanced and stable, good parents, joiners of clubs and organisations and have high moral values.

Green can also be a colour associated with envy, or feeling unwell. However, generally green is seen as fresh and warm.

Green walls and especially plants (hooray for the indoor plants) calm us and cool us down, if we are usually quite anxious, nervous people. Being in nature for some (including me) is quite a spiritual experience, I feel humbled and at peace.

Are you Red? Dominating, truthful, courageous, passionate and energetic. Can sometimes be aggressive and intense.

People who love red are often full of energy, they have a zest for life and are not usually known for their patience.

Women who like red are often high achievers and very active. Think of those hot red finger nails and high heels!

Red is stimulating and can encourage people to make quick decisions. It is a colour associated with taking action, so maybe thats why there is a popularity with certain women to have red front doors, …‘out we go into the world, let’s go get em girls’!

Red can be used as an accent colour or you can go crazy bold on all walls. We had a ‘fire engine red’ wall in our kitchen in Sydney and I absolutely loved it. Now, however I prefer calmer colours, although totally love a Moroccan or deep chilli tan wall in a house full of cacti and rattan!!

Are you Brown? Emotionally strong, mature, stable, outdoorsy, reliable, creditable and harmonious.

If you like brown, you are an all good rounder. The colour brown in interiors can be used as a neutral base with light creams and beiges, or in deeper warmer walnut woods.

Brown people are generally home bodies, who love spending time with their families. They have a sense of responsibility to the environment and have a keen sense of duty. They make good friends and partners and appreciate the simple things in life.

Brown is often a popular colour with men.

My house is full of brown, seeing that I have a bit of an obession with natural wood. Don’t be scared to mix different wood types (within reason) . If you have hardwood floors such as oak, cherry or maple and want to add a more neutral wood pine side table in, just throw a persian rug that contains some cream and beige on the floor and then pop it in the room.

By adding wooden stumps and picture frames to the room you can break up the brown colours for a warm and lived in look.

Are you Grey? Mature, reliable, composed, staid, modest, dignified, practical and intelligent.

Grey is a great colour to use as a background colour on walls, or as a sofa base. It sometimes has a bad wrap, as it is associated with old age and boredom, however as a blend of black and white it has so many options in regard to styling.

Grey people tend to be neutral people. They are practical and calm and do not like to attract attention to themselves. They prefer a secure safe balanced life, as oppose to a hectic existence, and will often have one hobby or interest that they enjoy.

Grey exists in many forms ranging from blue grey to dark charcoal. It blends well with lighter more muted colours, such as pale pink, cream, earthy greens and browns.

Grey bedsheets are a great base if you are not sure what feature colour to go with. You can add as many coloured, textured and patterned cushions as you like, to create whatever style you are going for!
