The Client: Promontory Drive, Shell Cove

The Brief: This project involved the redesign and restyling of a newly built contemporary apartment. My clients had recently downsized from a spacious family home in Woonona to a modern two-bedroom apartment. The existing furniture from their previous home was not suitable in terms of scale or style for their new space.

My brief was to identify their personal style, optimise the layout, and source and install furniture that complemented the apartment’s modern aesthetic. To enhance both functionality and enjoyment of the space, custom joinery was recommended. A built-in bench seat was designed to take full advantage of the beautiful water views while also providing practical storage for the various belongings carried over from their former home.

Additionally, a bespoke TV unit was created featuring soft, curved edges in natural oak. This design element echoed the apartment’s architectural curves and complemented the overall whitewashed, coastal-inspired palette.

The Result: The result was a complete transformation. The living, dining, and entry areas were thoughtfully styled to complement the apartment’s architecture. By incorporating black accents and a variety of textured materials, we achieved a modern aesthetic that also feels warm and relaxed—true to a contemporary coastal style.

This design language was extended into the study, where we introduced solid American Oak desks and commissioned custom artwork. The same cohesive style will be carried through to the bedroom in Stage 2 of the project.
